Mental Health First Aid Training
In today's challenging times for education, it's important to be able to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders in those we interact with on campus. That's why UHCL is privileged to be able to offer mental health first aid training on campus for faculty and staff, hosted by Dr. W. Brad McGonagle and Dr. Cindy Cook.
Upcoming dates and location:
- Thursday, Nov. 29, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (lunch included)
- Fridays, Dec. 7 and 14, 8 a.m. to noon (must attend both)
- Wednesday, Dec. 19, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (lunch included)
This eight-hour training, which focuses on the unique experiences and needs of college students, will give you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
This program is fully funded by a federal grant from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), making it a free training for participants.
